My Entry
I turned 22 last Christmas (which was when the movie SOUL was released). It was my first time celebrating it alone, away from my family. I was faced with the glaring reality that everything is moving fast and I'm afraid that I'm not even moving towards my purpose. But in the film, 22's appreciation of the minute and subtle goods of life that prompted her to pocket these strange treasures made me revisit my own.
I am reminded by the many small kindnesses, daily graces, deep hurts, and unfading scars that have formed me today, and I figured maybe these little things are the little answers to the big question that has been plaguing me.
I guess what makes me... me is the little things that I love and make me grateful to be alive -- the sun's warmth bleeding through my room, the smell of a freshly printed book, my mama's thoughtfully pressed flowers that excited me as a child when I find one in her collection, the photographs I took of my loved ones and the memories in them, just to name a few.
I think I've been focused for too long on trying to be the person I think I'm meant to be when it made me overlook these little simple joys calling me to just be for now, 22.

My art on the album cover:

My sketch on paper:
I added in the sketch the simple things I would pocket and cherish, film photos of my family, a freshly and my mama’s pressed flower petals.

Since it's going to be an album cover for 'SOUL', I centered the artwork around Joe Gardner’s piano, highlighting the scene where he lays out the small treasures 22 collected while inside his body.
